Genuine Nissan OEM Transmission Breather fits into the top of the transmission.   It allows the transmission to vent air to prevent a pressure/vacuum buildup while keeping water and debris out. Pressure buildup can cause oil to leak from the trans seals, while vacuum can cause water and debris to be pulled past the seals (mainly the rear seal). Additionally, a buildup of either pressure or vacuum can cause damage to the internal components of the transmission as well as the seals.
