This Datsun 1600 Roadster is a California car that was restored by the previous owner and modified with a front air dam, fender flares, 15″ Enkei wheels, and a roll cage. The 1600cc inline-four was rebuilt to factory specifications and is paired to a 4-speed manual. Other work included a new starter, alternator, fuel pump, radiator, fuel filters and lines, rebuilt Weber carburetors, Dynamat insulation, and new upholstery. The seller has owned the car for two years and driven it weekly, accumulating about 3,000 miles during fair-weather driving. With recent carburetor tuning, the car is said to start easily and run well. This Datsun is sold with a clean California title.
The paint is BMW Laguna Seca Blue and shows a couple of isolated instances of orange peel, and a small dent in the driver’s front fender (pictured). A front air dam and fender flares were added, and the seller notes that the windshield wipers are currently inoperative.
The hardtop and fender flares wear gray paint, and the top is lined with black alcantara fabric on the interior. The glass and lenses all look to be uncracked. The original tail lights are included, though no soft top is fitted.
The 15″ Enkei Apache wheels fill the bolt-on fender flares and wear new 205/50 R15 Falken Azenis rt-615 performance tires. The seller notes that the fenders were not cut for the flare installation.
The interior was removed and reupholstered, and Dynamat noise insulation was added under the new carpets. Aftermarket gauges under the glovebox are currently not wired, and the original radio remains in place but is not functional. The gas gauge reads inaccurately.
A bolt-in roll cage is painted to match the body. Seat upholstery is a replacement vinyl that matches the character of the original seats. The car includes original Datsun lap seat belts however they are not installed, as the seller was planning on upgrading to modern seat belts.
The 1600cc inline-four is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine was rebuilt to original specification by the previous owner. Rebuilt twin-choke Weber 40DCOE side-draft carburetors were added, and have been tuned prior to the sale. The seller reports that the motor runs well and has performed reliably. A new electric fuel pump, water pump, starter, alternator, and aluminum radiator were installed during the restoration. The suspension and braking setup have been fitted with new shocks, struts, and brake pads all around. A manual choke knob is mounted to the dash but is not connected, as the Weber setup does not require it for cold starts.
The body was reported to be rust free when stripped of paint, and a rustproofing coating was applied to the trunk interior, and engine bay. A small collection of spare parts are included along with the original seat belts and a spare set of gray painted tail lights.
